6 Reasons To Use Eco-Friendly Products

eco friendly

It seems like, everywhere we go, at least one person has decided to “go green” and start living an eco-friendly lifestyle. As a result, people will start to talk about the environment and the issues we face on planet Earth as part of the conversation. But what does “going green” and living an eco-friendly life mean?

What is an Eco-Friendly Lifestyle?

Going green means living a lifestyle that’s not only beneficial for you, but also for the people surrounding you as well.  And, of course, it benefits our beloved planet and its creatures the most. So if you’re not eco-friendly at the moment, this post is just for you: Here are 6 reasons why you should use eco-friendly products.

6 Reasons Why You Should Use Eco-Friendly Products

Eco-Friendly Products Contain No Plastic

Plastic pollution is a global crisis that’s aggressively growing. This is due to an increase in consumerism as well as the number of plastics used in our households and our everyday routines.

Most of these items are single-use items—made from plastic—that are used once and then thrown away. But what happens to this plastic after you toss it away? It doesn’t simply disappear. It usually ends up in the environment… and a big part of it eventually ends up in the ocean.

In fact, one of the most critical environmental issues that we are faced with today is marine plastic debris.

They Help Save Marine Life

Most of the plastic that’s dumped on land, flows into the sea or is washed away into the ocean by rain. This includes the garbage discharged at sea from boats and ships, as well as fishing trash.

Discarded fishing gear has a severe impact on marine life and coral reefs. But, it’s only  20% of all marine waste.  The other  80% comes from the land. Single-use food and drink containers are the most common items found in the ocean. This is not surprising given that about 50% of all plastics are single-use items.

Plastic pollution has a negative impact on freshwater, marine ecosystems, and all organisms living in the ocean. Sadly, because of this detrimental impact, about 700 species such as fish, seals, and sea turtles have been lost.

It’s reported that 8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean every year, and by the year 2050, it’s estimated that plastic in the oceans will outweigh the fish.

Green Products Are Good For Our Earth

Eco-friendly products help the sustainability of Earth. By using more green products, we reduce pollution and the contamination of natural resources like air, water, and soil.

Green products also mean less waste, less pollution, and a healthier environment.

What Makes a Product Eco-Friendly?

  • Made out of environmentally-friendly materials such as bamboo.
  • Renewable energy sources such as solar.
  • Minimizes the use of synthetic chemicals.
  • Made from recycled materials.
  • Long-lasting – no need to replace often.
  • The packaging is minimal and natural where possible. (Most industrial waste comes from packing and shipping plastic.)

Going Green Saves Money

When you go shopping, it may be tempting to choose the item that has a cheaper price. But, you’ll end up buying the cheaper product and repurchasing the product again and again. In the end, you’ll spend more and more money on a product that will fulfill the same purpose or that you don’t really need.

Eco-Friendly products are usually more expensive than plastic products, as they are mostly made from high-level natural material. Buying quality products for life will help you save money in the long run.

Be more mindful when you shop. Ask yourself, “Do I really need it?” Most of the time, the answer will be no.

I used to buy lots of clothing. For every kind of event, I had an outfit. Until, one day, I realized that I used most of my clothing for one season or less. Every season, I used to clean my closet and throw out a huge pile of clothing or donate them to charity. After seeing the movie “TRUE COST,” I now understand that nobody needs my donation. And, if I want to help other people, I should live a more minimalistic, neutral lifestyle. And spend my money on an experience rather than products.

Here are some nice ideas for zero-waste gifts:

  • Flowers or a nice plant. My favorite is a package of seeds that can garden myself.
  • A nice bottle of wine followed with a cheese plate and a “Let’s do a picnic together!”
  • A concert ticket or art show.

The ideas are endless and the point is to show your love and help our planet at the same time.

Live a More Healthy Natural Life

Natural living is a set of lifestyle choices that minimize the negative impact we have on the environment as much as possible. It’s about being mindful of where your food and products come from, what they are made from, who made them, and how much waste was created along the way.

When we use products that are natural, it is better for our well-being. It can also be mentioned that they last longer and are of better quality. This rule applies to everything- food, clothing, cosmetics… When we teach our children to prefer organic, even when they are small, we teach them to be more mindful and conscious of the world they live in.

So That Our Children Can Have a Better Future

Most of us think about environmental problems as distant problems and we count on our leaders to prevent them. We also tend to think that those disasters will not happen in our lifetime anyway. That thinking is wrong. We need to teach ourselves and our children to take responsibility for our actions. We need to do all that’s in our power to leave our children a better place. Not just save it, but make it good again.

Our children can have a better future
